Cashier

The Cashier is one of the positions that interacts the most with customers and therefore plays a major role in the customer service at all Oakes Farms locations. The Cashier provides customers with accurate, friendly and efficient checkout service by accurately scanning, collecting proper payment, providing proper change if necessary and bagging products. The Cashier may also address inquires or request assistance from other associates to help customers locate items in the store.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Interacts with customers and provides customers with accurate, friendly and efficient checkout service.
  • Accurately scans, collects proper payment, provides proper change if necessary and bags customer products.
  • The Cashier may also address inquires or request assistance from other associates to help customers locate items in the store.
  • Will be responsible for processing all forms of payments (i.e., cash, credit, checks, gift cards, etc.).
  • Accurately identify and scan products under correct department (when necessary).
  • Properly bag customer’s orders safely and efficiently.
  • Handle damaged or return-to-stock products according to company policy, with priority attention given to refrigerated, perishable items, and sell by date.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the various types of products carried in the store.
  • Expected to meet all work schedules and comply with all time and attendance policies.
  • Maintains a clean, neat, organized and safe work environment.
  • Maintains Department sanitation and quality standards by cleaning and sanitizing all work surfaces, utensils and equipment.  Keeps floor clear of debris and spills.
  • Adheres to all Federal, State and Local regulations as they pertain to the front-end operation.
  • Dresses according to company policy to include company provided shirts, name badge and hat or hair restraint.
  • Utilizes and maintains equipment as required by department; reports any equipment problems immediately.
  • Completes all applicable department training programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of the job, the associate is regularly required to stand and/or walk for the duration of a scheduled shift.
  • The associate is frequently required to bend, twist, reach, push and pull.
  • The associate must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 25 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs.
  • The associate must be able to work with a wide variety of fresh, dried and/or processed products, spices and powdered substances without negative allergic consequences.
  • This position requires an associate to be able to tolerate moderate amounts of dust and cleaning agents during routine housekeeping duties.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to perform basic math skills for counting money and to make change with all denominations of American currency.
  • Previous cashier experience preferred.
  • Cashiers need to be attentive and precise, able to work in a fast-paced environment where they will be expected to switch tasks frequently to fulfill customer requests.
  • A passion for serving people.
  • Must be comfortable talking to people.
  • Able to work well with others as a team.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Previous customer service experience required.
  • Previous retail experience a plus.
  • Proficient in operating point-of-sales systems.
  • High School diploma required.
